From what I know it shouldn't be left to long maybe a day or 2 max. The longer in the box the more dieoff. were you thinking of buying the special and just holding it for a near future tank?

Yeah, I was hoping to buy the special and keep it for a while until my setup is ready. That'll take more than a couple of months .. me thinks.

If you have the rock in a rubbermaid container with a heater and a pump... you'll be fine until its fully cured... then add a 40 watt bulb from home depot($15) and you'll have as much time as you need. Sorry no rain cheque... just a real nice Christmas special

Is the price on the live rock also tied to the purchase of an aquarium (like the $25 live goods credit) - or can I order a box of live rock @$4.99 / lb. without buying an aquarium?

You can purchase a box withoiut an aquarium... they are 2 separate specials for December.

Hi, it has been awhile since I've been on this board, and my god it's has changed. Just looking at the number of users, now compared to jsut a few months ago is unreal... way to go IJO.
Well I'm back in the flow of things now and I am interested in this deal.
Can you explain to me why I would get this Vanuatu Rock over the conventional kind? Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere else.Have you hugged your fish today?

Hey Fish_Geek!!! I'm glad to see your back in the swing of things
Reasons to go with Vanuatu Live Rock.
1) Price: not many can match let alone beat $5/pound
2) Life: the rock is covered in life... reds, oranges, purples

What Ijo said, plus its good to have different types of liverock
FIJI,MARSHAALL VANUATA and such for diversity of life in the rock and shapes [ledge,branch, porous]
