Kent Venturi on a Berlin skimmer?

    Hi:

I am looking for info regarding modding a Berlin XL skimmer, specifically replacing the factory venturi with a Kent or Mazzei, increasing the inlet size, etc.?

Anyone know a good source for the Kent, or preferably, the Mazzei venturis?

    Thanks
    Cliff

How noticable was the improvement in performance by switching to the Kent venturi? I assume that you used the 3/4" model, not the 1/2"?

    Bigreddoggie,
I had the exact same skimmer and also modified it. I used the 3/4" Kent Venturi ( which you can buy at MOPS online) a needle valve to control it, a Mag 9.5 to push tht puppy and modified the 2 returns to 1" dia pipes to handle the flow of the Mag. I also removed the original venturi inside the inlet. Worked great after these mods. A definite inprovement.

I'm using a Mag 18 on my XL, and the performance is, to say the least, disappointing.
How did you mod the oulets to 1"?

Just unscrewed the outlets that come with it and screw back in bigger ones..., that's it. After that, I was able to add 1"ID pipes to handle the flow. Are you using an add on venturi such as the Kent type I was using? If you use an aftermarket venturi, make sure you remove the one that is already in it, otherwise it would be a moot point to add a better one.

Not sure about the Classic. I had the XL. Basically, I just grabbed it inside the opening with a pair of longnosed pliers and unscrewed it. You HAVE to take this out if you're adding an external venturi. Mine worked way better after I did these mods. Unfortunately as everyone knows, what a skimmer is rated for and what it actually does good on are 2 different things. Mine was just too small for all the life in my size of tank.

    Bigred,
Can I just call you Clifford??!!
