You could try Canus Plastics on Lisgar in Ottawa, I got a 15" x 15" x 1/4" thick for $2 out of their scraps and a 48" x 6" free going out the door.

Methylene Chloride is the glue, they have it in small bottles.

I cant remember the price. But a small bottle of methylene chloride was negligible.

I think 1/4" acrylic is about $5.50 per square foot, and that includes being cut to your deminsions.

i pay about $130 for a sheet (49" x 97") x 1/4" type F ( extruded ) the cast (type G )would be more expensive but depending what your using it for the extruded may be fine.

they wanted about $225 for a sheet of 3/8"

and the glue is about $5 for a small bottle (more than enough to build a sump etc ... ) and the "weld-on 16" was about $5 for a tube as well.

Try to avoid extruded for sumps. Constantly in contact with water and under pressure, extruded acrylic can craze, crack and/or break open.

The structure of the cast acrylic resists water penetration better.

My top-off reservoir was made of extruded. It showed slight crazing within a couple months and started to leak after about 18 months.

I personally like Laird Plastics on Industrial ave. They are by far the cheapest place in Ottawa, love the service. Canus is ok, but last time I bought something there (ok, it was for airplanes) they sold me epoxy resin that was a year past it's due date. Flashed in a second making a huge mess. Avoided them ever since.

    Just my two cents.

definite sign you don't want him building your tank :bomb2:

that said i wouldn't make a display aquarium out of acrylic not because it wouldn't hold but because they scratch to easy.

unless you need a custom size it may be easier to buy a small glass tank and have baffles cut at a glass shop.

this is true but lots of skimmers and other vessels are made from extruded. i find if the proper tools are used and good welding techniques this can be avoided. size is a big factor as well, i wouldn't exceed about 50 - 60g. i have extruded sumps out there that are over 3 years old with no problems so far ( knock on wood, i can almost hear the phone ringing now )
