    Hi,
    a M58 is a regular Tar ballast ( coil and cap )
a regular 20k lamp should work fine on those ballasts.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

i think there are a few bulbs that require an electronic ballast to work properly, which bulb manufacturer were you looking at?

xm bulbs will run on those ballasts, they also come in 10K and 15K. 20K bulbs are nice and blue but you have to remember that they start with about 1/2 the PAR ( Photsynthetically Available Radiation ) end even less PUR ( Photosynthetically Usable Radiation ) because of their extremely narrow wavelength.

    from 4x 65w PC's to 2x 250w.. you should see a nice difference.
and ya, if you run xm's they will run fine on regular ballasts like the M58.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
