The last hood I built was just a little bigger than the width of the tank... I added 1 by 2's to the inside of the hood and these rested on the tank. I went with a front dorr hing but if I had to do it again... I would add a hing at the back and have the whole top lift.

Yeah by the whole thing lifting that what I meant a bit with angled, the hinges would be close to the middle of the hood so that way I have a bigger opening.

It all depends on how the tank sits... against the wall length wise, 3 side viewable... inwall.

Describe how the tank is setup and i can throw ideas at you.

the hoods i've built have all been like the one PAZE just built. you can easily make the door bigger but the size will depend on how your lighting is attached, etc...

Yeah that 's what I was goign with, thanks...

    Now here's a fun question
I have 3 MH 400 Watts, would you see a benefit of having 2 extremity bulbs with 20K and the middle one at 12K let's say??

Just remember to brace the front and the back, a 6 foot canapy will sag in the middle if not braced up. I've built 6 footers before with split openings in the front, it can get pretty heavy once they get this big, and while feeding you would only need a smaller opening then haveing to open the whole thing, good luck on your build, show us some pictures once shes done.

i don't see any benefit from doing that but it may help you get the look you're after, though you may be able to see a difference when looking at the tank.
