I've been down this road before.. search the forums.. I should be in there. ( brings back memories.. he he )
basically, I had found a company in Toronto that specialized in this stuff and the price wasn't that bad.. ~ 90$ for a sheet of 4'x8' + shipping or pickup locally.. that was ~5years ago I'd guess.

but in the end.. it wasn't worth it. the reflectors built and sold locally outperform most diy, unless you do an exact cad drawing and are skilled at bending alum etc and working with metal.. pop rivets etc. the lumenarc or lumenbright are not that much more expensive. a 20x20 lumenbright reflector possibly takes over 1/2 a sheet at 90$ ( at the time.. ) probably 120$ now + shipping for same size. so 60$ worth of material then add tools to precision bend, cut, attach..

in the end.. dont get me wrong, I diy everything I possibly can, but I do not do it to save money, I are doing it because of my love for diy. Trust me on this, diy reflectors are like trying to build your own car, you usually dont save much, if any, and in the end, the store item is usually better/safer

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:

Well I was going to build them for my T5 set up, store bought reflectors are anywhere between 25-30 bucks each, I need 8, so I figured if I could save a few bucks going with the hammertone I would, but like you said after all the work building them it might not be worth it.

i don't think it wouldn't be the same, the individual reflectors are round / smooth and mounted really close to the bulb. the further away and rougher the reflectors are will greatly reduce the possible efficiency gains.

    yup, A4's right!...
the single reflectors sold are precision bent to waste as little light and direct it towards the aquarium. their efficiency will be much greater then hand made ones.
