small tank (15" wide) lighting suggestions needed

hi, i'm looking for ideas as to how i can light a 15" wide small tank. t5's are not an option with 15" wide..will probably need to diy a canopy and looking for ideas for lighting solution. Not looking at the viper mh clamp ons at this point.

any ideas for a small tank like this? not looking to keep high light demanding corals etc.

    thanks

how tall is the tank? I take it a normal out put florescent strip light wont work? I just got a screw in the socket 6500k equal too 150 watts CF bulb at Canadian tire as well as the fixture , the socket that can clip on the side of the tank. For my sump. All for under $20

hi, tank depth is 12". The screw in 6500's would be an option i guess, wondering if there are power compacts avail in that size that i could diy. this would give me some other color temp options

    diy lighting canopies required

dead canopies needed..prefer ones that originally had pc or above lighting as they have some reflective material inside..not reallytoo interested in incandescent screw bulb fixtures but if the price is right i'll take then also..I don't care about condition, guts, etc as i only want the housings mainly. DIY abandoned project canopies ok also.

    pm please , thanks

I have DIY'd a compact fluorescent (32W) 50/50 Actinic/10,000K bulb with a Workhorse 2 ballast into an old aquarium hood from an unused 10 gallon tank.
The hood I'm using is 18", but the reflector/light/end cap only measure 14".
The ballast ($30?) is available from Litemore here in Ottawa, the PC lamp ($25) and end cap ($15) (square pin) are available on line at MOPS and/or J&L Aquatics. I've not been able to locate another reflector online. Then there's building/scrounging a hood...

Marine Depot offers a DIY kit - 32W lamp, ballast, end cap and reflector for $ 70 US, plus exchange, shipping, GST and PST. Here's the link:
    http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewIt...s~vendor~.html

Marine Depot also offers the Coralife Mini (18W) Aqualight for $36 US. Here's the link:
    http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewIt...s~vendor~.html

J&L Aquatics, in B.C., offer this same Aqualight for $36 Cdn. At only 9" long * 5" wide, you may be able to accomodate 2. This would give you roughly the same output (36W) at the same cost as the DIY kit from Marine Depot.
    Here's the J&L link:

    Hope this helps...
