    How to Fix/Replace Top Brace

    Hello group! :b2:

Would anyone have a suggestion on how to fix or replace the top brace on a 6 feet tank? Mine has a split on the front vertical part. :b1: Any suggestion is appreciated!

    Thanks!

Is it a plastic top brace that is one solid piece around the tank with cross braces? If so I would remove all the water first then remove the entire piece of plastic and replace it wit glass eurobracing. If it is the one piece and broke at the front I would be worried why it broke as well.

If it is just the black trim pieces (look at the corners you should see mitre marks if it is trim) then just buy a new piece from BA's and cut to fit. It is just held on with some silicone.

I actually removed all the trim and cross braces from my 6 foot tank. I replaced them with strips of glass and siliconed them. It's super strong, and doesn't interfere with the light.

Sorry to hijack your thread here but I have a Q in the same area .
When you remove the plastic trim is the glass on the top edge ground or is it sharp?

On my Hagen 135 all the edges are bevelled. It is a bit of work to get all the old silicone off though.

make sure all tank water is out.. and while your at it, check all seams for weaknesses, fix if necessary.

    Hi Liv et al...

Well, the tank is still sitting in the garage since the infamous flood. I just want to fix it properly, so I can sell the whole shebang. I just don't have time to get back in the hobby for now and my dear wife refuses that I bring back that tank in the basement.

I'll see if I can find some good links for pictures and procedures on how to replace the top brace with the euro style. I have tools and the space to work on the tank, so I should be OK in that respect.

If anyone has good links or pictures on the process, I would greatly appreciate it!

Cheers! What happened to the Beer mugs smiley?

    Not Gonna Happen

Well, it's not going to happen. The tank is up for sale as a terrarium. The ~130LBS of rocks are up for grabs too. In fact all my aquaria related material and supplies are up grabs.

    Anyone interested?

    Cheers!
