    Noise, Noise.... more noise :(

    Hello everyone
I finally got 2 holes on the top/back of my Tanks.
DEaler says this would be has silent has a Durso pipe (whitch i had made very easily and yes very silent)
So.. its an 90` Elbow opening up inside the aqua.
Outside is another 90 Elbow shooting down with pipe all the way to sump.
On the outside Elbow theres a 1/4 hole with airline tubing for air-vent (like durso)
Still oh so very noisy, up and in the sump its like a storm!
1" Elbow, 3/4 Cpvc pipes with 45 degree angle max.
    i just dont get it!
Please anyone got this system going?

I had a very similar setup on my old 130g years ago.
    mine was super quiet.
    Inside I had a 90deg,
outside I had a T and on the upside of the T had a cap, cap was threaded and a airline with a air filter ( like the ones used on powerheads with cotton inside ) was used.
the other side went directly to sump.
I used flex pvc and it was pretty much dead quiet at ~500gph.

the first step is determining where the sound is coming from.
if its from inside the tank. where the 90deg is, you might want to increase the air hole outside.. so it doesn't try to suck in air from the inside 90deg.
also, how much water is going through it and what is the size ?
also what is the pipe material, size and lenght going to the sump..

now.. a storm in the sump is quite normal.. i'm thinking your pushing quite alot of water through.. know that most sumps do better with low flow ex: 300-500gph max.

    Cheers !

I have the same setup that liv just described on my 120 currently.

When I first set it up there was alot of noise, and the hole size didn't seem to matter. What I found worked is to take a piece of the small rigid air tub and put it through the hole. Move the tube up/down until you find the sweet spot. If you don't have rigid air tube a normal drinking straw works great (I used these).

Ya Liz when u said "know that most sumps do better with low flow "
i went downstairs and turned the knob down a bit, voila!
no more gushing noise. i also figured out that i might have went 2 small on the pipes, its like 1/2 interior size so if i wanted to up the flow
    i would need 1inch pipe!
    Thx again
Thats how many problem u solve for me now ?!?

    no problemo
    he he..
ya I do all my water returns with 1-1/2" and to the tank @ 3/4".
overkill is always good for overflow as they dont clog and are typically safer

glad it worked out for you
