    Glueing PVC

Going to be gluing my plumbing together this weekend for my drain and return. Just wondering if the glue I got is the right stuff.. I notice in alot of pics that the glued joints are purple on most peoples PVC. The can of glue I got says its for PVC but it says its medium grey.. Is this ok to use? Or did I get the wrong stuff?

you need two things, the solvent and the glue.

the purple you see is a dye added to the solvent ( its used to make sure that the pvc installers used the solvent before glueing it ( for inspection use )
you can get the same solvent not inspection rated if you want .. its fully clear. ( on the jobsite, purple is required )

so.. rub both sides of the pieces of pvc you want to bind together with solvent. then let it sit for 30sec ( or read instructions ) then add glue.
you gotta be quick it will set in seconds!.. i think its usable in like 10min.. ( in our application / low pressure ) or 24h for fully cured.. again read instructions.

    hope this helps.

the primer is an absolute must.. it opens the pores and softens it... this stuff is potent.. open windows or do it outside if you can... away from pregnant ladies too.

also try not to cross the products like having some of the primer get into the glue.. it will make it go bad much faster. ( turn into jelly )

not adding the soldent, you can usually twist off the parts even after months being glued. ( with lots of effort.. but its doable )

Liv have you been able to even find the clear primer any more? I have looked and everywhere it is just purple.

But as liv said you really want the primer. Also if you are gluing spa flex they may a pvc glue specifically for spa flex. The regular will work but the other is supposed to be a little more forgiving to the bends/vibration/forces that come with spa flex, usually a good pool store that sells spa flex has this.
