    Talking DIY - Fish Trap...

    Ok,
As many of you know, I use the isolation technique when acquiring new fish.

I place them in my permanently set up 30 gallon isolation tank complete with sandbed and liverock...

I wanted a way to get fish out of there without tearing down the tank and/or putting undue stress on them...

Hence, I DIYed a fish trap, which worked PERFECTLY.

How? Take a 2L soda bottle, cut off the top and put back on INVERTED into the bottle. Fish swim in, but don't know how to get out. I placed the bottle within the tank for 2 weeks before they finally fell for the trap. Every other evening, I would put food inside the bottle. If they didn't eat it by the time I went to bed, I'd empty it out into the tank and let them eat.
However, The other morning I figured that I'd put the food in the bottle and leave it all day.... I got home from work, and PRESTO, Both the Carpenter's Wrasse AND the Midas Blenny were waiting for me in the bottle.
No fuss, no mess, no stress. Acclimated them to the display tank's water for an hour, and the next morning, they were out and about as if nothing ever happened, swimming with the community of fish.

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about, however I used a 2L Coke bottle...

    Hmmm ....

Looks just like the minnow traps we used as kids to catch bait.... only ours were made of wire-mesh...
    It's not junk, it's un-assembled DIY!
