    building your own METAL HALIDE ballasts

    thats expensive a bit.. look around in your home town at some electrical stores... here in the region they are about 60 cdn. for the 250w so i imagine the 400's would'nt be that much more.

    for the people interested in the region.. its Papineau distribution in Gatineau.

    oh .. and ya.. mine are like that.. i just dropped them in a steel box.

    No problems starting them up. They fire ok everyday.

    they work great for me.. i run 3x 175w 14k bulbs.
    so far soo good.. they are build tough.

    Would that do? Those are very reasonable, the same price as the Coralife PC lighting I'm looking at, except the PC comes with a bulb.(but only 65w not 175w+)

    Just make sure you check the ANSI code when you purchase the ballast so you'll know what type of bulbs you can fire.

    Certain bulbs need a certain type of ballast to fire. There are I believe 4 types of MH ballast: Probe Start, Pulse Start, HQI, and Electronic. Each type of ballast has its own ANSI code (except electronic).
