    to nano/cube/refugiums/sump owners

I would just like to know if any of you might be interested to run 70watt metal halides in your setups.

I have some electronic ballasts for sale that run 70w mh bulbs ( either DE or SE. )

I am currently running one on my nano and its nice and bright, yet does'nt humm and very low energy consumption.

let me know if anybody is interested.
I would prefer local pickup but I spoke to Ivan and he would'nt mind if I would put them in one of the boxes that you guys order.

Ivan will be getting the bulbs in the next month possibly.
I found some at the hardware store and hydroponic stores can order them. Ivan is looking into getting some 10k and 20k bulbs shortly.

right now, i just want to know if anyone would possibly be interested.

What are you asking for them?
There is nothing so permanent as a temporary measure.

40$ for one, 35$each if you get 5 or more.
they sell on the web for 64.95 us so ~85$

mine look like new and run like new.. but I do not know if they are in fact new or not.. soo I will have to sell them as used ballasts.. hense the price.

they are about the size of 2 packs of cigarettes on top of each other. closed with a label in the front.
    4 wires sticking out, black/white = power ... 2 blue = bulb.

    its exactly like this one:

I got some pm's asking if they come with the reflector or hood or ac wiring..

they are just the ballast.. you have to do the rest.
basically just a aluminium box with 4 wires sticking out.

Ivan can get the pfo de mini reflector hoods if you need one,
and for the power cords, I am using an extension that I cut in half. from the ballast to the bulb I used the female side. and from the bulb to ballast I used the male side.. so easy connection, and you dont get zapped. and another extension from the ballast to the AC power.

as for the reflectors, I got a " chrome angel 18inch " at my local hydroponic store and they are 25$ and the 24inch is 30$.

the socket, you can use one of those halogen sockets ( for the long bulb ) and modify it so it fits the bulb.
I got one of those work lights ( yellow 500w ) for 12$ at reno and will try this out tonight.

    hmm dont know Fisherman...
the fun thing about mh's is that they reflect the turbulance from the top of the water on the bottom of the tank.. like you would see in a natural enviroment.. not like a fluorescent who outputs a all around glow.

I do not think it would replace 130w of light...
we tried it on Ivans 2'x2' cube and half water in it and bulb was sitting 9" from the top and it was not enough lighting.. but we were about 16" from the water so being at a few inches would definitly make a diff. maybe even enough for his cube.. who knows.

    2 would do the trick..

once Ivan gets the bulbs, I'll put 2 in my 35g and i'll post some pics..

i'll post a pic tonight of the light on my nano or another tank.

here is a pic taken using those 500w halogen housing with the ballast and 70w bulb over my 16x16x16 nano.
to get the bulb to fit the halogen connector properly.. I had to trim one of the sides of the bulb so the connector would be alligned properly.. just a pair of plyers. but i strongly recommend you get the proper connector

    its definitly enough light..

    the ballast,light & wiring.
