This is day 2. Not enough foam yet to clear the top but it's grungy foam & it's almost there...

I made a couple mistakes putting this together, so I'll likely do a new one after getting a few other things off my list.

Total price for the acrylic was $4.00. The glue cost more lol.

I don't know how big a tank this will handle, but it's hooked up to a pro 3 at full blast (240gph) and it's hanging on my 10G nano.

    Cheers!

4$ for all your acrylic ? What thickness is that and where did you get it ?

Seems like a good price for acrylic...id like to know where I can get deals like that in the ottawa/hull region!

    It's only 1/8th and it's a pretty small set up. 14" tall x 2.5" long x 2" wide, so it's really not a lot of acrylic.

Canus Plastics on Lisgar is where I picked up the odds and ends I needed.

They have a weldon #3 equiv for $3.50, Weldon #16 is also $3.50, and I think the needle applicator bottle was also about $3.00 or so.

The plans are here: (don't know if I can link this pic directly)

    From this post:
    http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/show...&pagenumber=13

The design is Undertheradar's and it's very simple to build. He also describes how to modify it for more than 90GPH, but you'll have to dig through the thread to find that info.

I doubled the width & lowered the outlet an inch & it seems to work, but I have to return on to a spill plate or I get micro bubbles so the next one will be an inch taller.

    Cheers!

Oh something I should point out, the pic doesn't have the front & back pieces listed in it's list of parts. Confused me for a second when I tried to dry assemble it.

1/4" Would be massive for a skimmer that small lol

    Cheers!

I changed from 3 1/16" holes to 4 of them and I'm getting a better rise on the foam and oddly less micro bubbles are going to the return tube.

I think the foam's dry enough, when it breaks down it turns into a brown-green liquid but it's not doing that very fast. It seems it pushes a bit of foam into the collection area then falls back down & has to work back up to the edge.

This takes a minute or two before enough foam builds up to push the top over.

Should I be aiming for a faster rate? It's only day 3, so it could be it's just not broken in yet too.

    Cheers!
