    Maxi-Jet Anti-Chatter Mod

The fix is to take the impeller out of the MaxiJet.

Pull gently between the white impeller fins and the black magnet.

This will open up a gap of about a 1/4".

Squeeze a little Krazy Glue gel into the opening, twist the assembly clockwise and let it harden overnight.

Replace the impeller and all should be fine. No more chatter.

Try this at your own risk... there really isn't any. :

    p.s - No, those aren't my hands... :

    Hey Vince,

How about posting some DIY that you did on your tank setup?

You take great pics, I'm sure you could put something great together.

If you have women's hands holding stuff, we'll know it's your better half.

    That's a good idea actually...
There's a couple of things that I could show off....

As for the hands in the pictures I take, I'll keep everyone in suspense.

wonder if something simillar can be applied to my rio600 that pumps into the skimmer, it is loud and real bursty compared to everything else in my tank, starting to drive me nuts.

    nbreau,

Only thing I can tell you, is how many horror stories I've read on RC and RDO as to how frequently Rio pumps either short circuit and kill the whole tank or catch on fire.

Read up on your own, and when I thought they had a good hefty power cord and good construction.

Those pumps get a lot of bad press. I don't have any personal experience myself with these pumps, I had Hagen at first and then quickly moved to MaxiJets when I installed a wave-maker.

Changed them due to the incessant impeller chatter with the Hagen's turning on and off with the wavemaker... :guns:

nBreau... make sure the noise is comming from the pump and not caused by vibration. Mine makes noise also.. but I just move it off the glass and the noise goes away.

I've read that the RIO's prone to failure are the 2100 and up. I personaly havent had any problems with the RIO's but then again I've only been using the 600 RVT.
