    DIY Aquacontroller

Well I know I have posted about these things before, but I think I just found the perfect device. Nokia's new linux handheld.

The programming IMHO is the easy part. Building the interface from it's port to something that can accept probes is beyond my meger skill set.

But hey if you're into it I could likely shake some time loose to do some coding.

Just a thought though if you're into modding a PDA to turn it into a controller, why not a Palm or Win CE device? They can be had for pretty cheap...

    Cheers!

    Say it with me, "LINUX."

Every DIY is better with LINUX. ;-)

Mind you, this Nokia as the human interface would be alright. Be a darn shame to have to bolt it to your fish tank and lose the ability to surf Aquaria from anywhere. :-D

I understand & if I could load it up with portage you might yet convince me. I'm using a phase-1 Gentoo build right now & loving it.

It's a brand new toy though & $350 US MSRP for the just the human interface puts us in the same price range as an actual controller (by the time you build an interface for the probes & toss in a temperature probe).

An old palm can be had for cheap. Heck I'm pretty sure I have a couple in a drawer someplace. They have a reasonable processor for the task, a decient amount of memory and did I mention they're cheap?

So if we bork 3 making it, who cares? I think I'd cry if I borked just one of those

    Cheers!
