Myself I think it would be alot easier just to make your own stand and canopy for your tank. By the time you reinforce the entermainment stand you probably could have built a stand and canopy from scratch.IMO anyway. Just a thought.

This may look like a good idea but that stand is most likely made out of sawdust board. I think it's called HDF board or something along those lines. That stuff really dose not like water or moisture. You will have problems with its strength at some point down the road.

Ya I used MDF on my stand and canopy. Actually the MDF on my stand is only there for looks. It had so structural integratory (Spelling) The actual stand is made out of 2" angle iron. Where the camopy is going to be close to open water I made sure that every inch was painted. That stuff would soak up water like a sponge!!!

I was thinking of solid wood ECs.
Particle bord would probably snap under so much weight.

Oh, I forgot to tell you...my dresser (either MDF or particle board) is successfully suporting my 30g.

By the way, MDF is much stronger that particle board.
MDF is the material they make those baseboards and trims out of. It's basicaly paper/wood dust with lots of epoxy.

Why even chance it. Can you imagine if the wood got soaked with water and you come home one day and a S#$T load of water on the floor. Too much of a chance for me.

Well it can be done at least for the first 3 weeks it holds.

I got a particle borade cabinet thing at home depot (thought it was real wood) Then i bought a kitchen counter top and put it together the particle board was flimsy so as u can see in pictures i braced the heck out of it. 4 4x4 on each corner of counter top and 2 2x4's in middle of it then used about 3 2x4's for bracing inside and it doesnt move a inch.
