    new sump

I just finished constructing a sump for my 180 gal. This phase 2 of probably a 6 phase project before I actually get fish in the tank.
The sump design was taken from melev's sump page, with a 30 gal refugium (left) and a central compartment which will be pumped back to the tank and the refugium. I'm pretty happy with the fit of the pieces the glueing however is a little harder to look neat.
I've built the central compartment so that when I want a water change all I have to do is turn off the pump and drain the central compartment and the skimmer section thru a pipe in the floor. Fresh salt water is pumped from the basement thru the same pipe and into the central compartment. This was designed to hold 20 gal to allow an easy 10% water change.

the skimmer was purchased second-hand on E-bay and is a 8-1. It's a little underpowered (rated 135 gal) but there is not enought clearance under the stand for a 8-2 or higher.
