    Brass and reefs?

I have just completed my fuge. I have a 3/4" clear rubber drain hose which I drilled a small hole in the top to keep the drain from starting a syphon. It works but some times for some reason, the hole leaks water. Now the question is, I got a brass valve which I can plug in the hose which will allow the air to enter the hose, Would the brass be safe to use or should I try something else?

thats the problem. When i stick the valve through the rubber tube, the tip of the brass will probably come in contact with the water every once in a while. I know that copper is bad, but does brass have the same effects?

    I wouldn't do it.
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.

same deal, it might look homogenous, but its not, alloys aren't a new metal, they're just mixtures of the two.

the water will break the metal into ion and get into the water... thats bad

Get yourself a plastic valve like from those plastic air line gang valves.
