    Thoughts on Coil Denitrators?

I'm tossing around the idea of DIYing a Coil Denitrator.

    Specifically, something like this:

    http://www.aquasite.com/knowledge/ti...nitrator.shtml

This one calls for using 75ft of 1/4" tubing. I've heard of people making larger units that use 100ft of tubing.

How does one know how much tubing to use or how large of a denitrator to make judging by the size of a tank?

Do these work well in the long term?

Should the cylinder be black as to not allow any light through? Or should it be clear? ie: acrylic?

    Thanks!

I've been reading "Book of Coral Propagation" by Anthony Rosario. There are a few pages where he talks about these and how to tell if your coil is long enough. I read through it again and see if I can get you some more info TM.

    Ivan,
My favorite passages in that book are... " Cookoo for Copopods and the story that entails a purple van in the driveway, a greenhouse in the woods, a purple glow from said greenhouse ( actinic lighting), a police helicoptor,etc...

Have you had a chance to read the new book by Bob Fenner and Anthony Calfo called "Reef invertabrates"? Lots of funny and witty things in there too!!!!!!

    Ivan,
Another excellant book I'm just starting to read through is called "Ultimate Marine Aquariums" subtitle: Saltwater dream systems and how they are created. by Michael Paletta. Basically, he went around the world photographing the best and wildest SW tanks, then writes all about them, their systems, how they are setup, etc... Really cool book for innovative ideas and gorgeous aquascaping ideas. A must read for sure!!!!
