    Urgent: Rapid gill movement

Hi! I purchased a nice Midas Blenny yesterday, however I may have rushed the acclimation process. He seemed fine yesterday, however today he's in his hole breathing heavily and isn't eating. I'm afraid if I don't act real fast, I will lose him tonight. Any suggestions?

Rapid breathing is a sign of stress and or gill parasites. You may be seeing the first signs of ICH even if no spots have been seen on the fish yet. Is there any other symptoms present? Other causes are lack of o2, excess carbon dioxide in the water.

    Hi Rob,
Well, I'm trying to think of anything odd or different I noticed yesterday...The blenny did scrape a few times against the glass, but it had no white spots. If it is the dreaded ich, what should I do tonight? I do have some Cupramine.

Well he is new and you might as well take him out of there and into a QT tank. Myself I don't like using copper and for sure don't like using it in a display setup. Treatment choices are yours but start by getting him into a QT tank. There is a good link on the home page here about ICH if that's what this fish is suffering from. IMO It is a good idea to treat new fish for all common diseases even if symptoms are not present.
