    Copperband has ick...

    Hi Guys...

Picked up a healthy looking Copperband last week. Seems to have developed some white spots on his fins. I am guessing its ICK. Due to size limitations in my apartment I dont have any QT tank setup. I do however have a spare 25 gallon rubbermaid lying around. Can i fill that up with fresh RO water , mix it with salt, get the temperture right and dump that poor sucker in their? I know its not ideal, but what other choices do i have? I have some treatmetns readylike coopemane but I wont throw them into my main tank. The draw back will be no windows for the rubbermaid and very little lighting... only day light and I can put a lampunder the top too.

    Please suggest something ...

    Thanks

    Shel

    First, Is the copperband eating?
Is he getting harassed by your triggers?

Yes, hes eating..and yes... he was getting totally harrassed by the Blueline. The first 2 or 3 days I thought he was a gonner with that bully. Since then, he is now ok with him. He isnt being harrased anymore but I noticed hes developed ick like spots on his fins, 2 to be precise.

i'd keep a close eye on him... but not remove him just yet. It may stress him more.
If you have good water quality, and he's eating, not being harassed, he should be ok.
Probably initial stress along with being bullied.

How big are the spots? The size of a grain of salt or really small like a powder?

There are many different approaches to dealing with ich. I haven't had it my tanks before but I've read a lot about it. A few things to consider:

    - Whether or not you remove the affected fish your main tank is now infected and it could return on any of your fish in the future.

    - If you remove the fish now it could cause extra stress which will strain an already compromised immune system and make the fish worse.

    - The only way to prevent ich from getting into your system is to quarantine all new arrivals.
