but i sttill have some questions:

    1. What is better for a fowlr tank, crushed coral or sand?
    2. I need 4 inch right? how much bags should i buy if my tank is 48x12

    1) Both can work. Most people suggest staying away from silica-based sand (standard play sand). High flow can cause problems with sand storms but that's not likely to be an issue with a FOWLR.

    2) You don't need 4". For deep sand bed, I think you'd need somewhat more (6"). But, many people are using more shallow sand beds (1-2") unless the sand is needed as a habitat for fish which live in the sand.

To figure out how much you need, try this calculator over on Reef Central: http://reefcentral.com/calc/SandBed.php
