    How much salt to add?

    Im getting setup to do a 5G water change to my 20G tank. How much salt do I add to 5G of water?
    I want a bigger tank! :biglaugh2

    Depands on your type of salt. There should be mixing instructions on the container of salt. Make it up to the same sg as the tank water.

    Check the instructions on the bag / barrel.

    If it's IO 1/2 cup for each US gallon but you will need to test and adjust acordingly. I think that recipe will end up with a SG of 1.020.

    thats kinda a problem! I got my setup from a friend that moved away. He gave me salt in a bag...but without instructions
    I want a bigger tank! :biglaugh2

    Then you've got a problem :-) I'd follow the 1/2 cup/Gallon. Mix well, mesaure the sg and adjust as required by adding more salt or water.

    ok..Ill try that..I just added the salt and will pop a power head in the buvket to mix er up. Should I add a heater to the bucket?
    I want a bigger tank! :biglaugh2

    Salinity measurements are more accurate if you have it at tank temperature.

    As well, when you add the water, the lower the difference in temperature the smaller the shock to the system.

    Given a 25% water change, the closer your new water is to the existing water, the better.
