Chaeto in the prefilter box of Remora Pro?

I'm picking up a Remora Pro pre-filter tomorrow and was thinking that the return side might be a good place to grow some Chaeto (I have no sump/refugium) for nutrient export.

To be ideal you need to keep the chaeto tumbling in the current. It doesn't have to be rapid, but it should turn over.

Otherwise the bottom / inside may not get enough light & it could die off. That could create more problems than it solves.

But if you keep it thinned out, the chaeto can be managed without the movement.

Something I'm not clear on, since I don't use a remora, but isn't the overflow box where it sucks in the water as well as the return? If that's the case, how will you keep the cheato from clogging the inlet on the skimmer?

There is nothing so permanent as a temporary measure.

I was under the impression that they were split (i.e. intake and outlet were two separate compartments). If they are not, then you are right - it won't work at all.

They are spilt somewhat but not enough to have Chaeto inside the box. The output side has foam on the bottom to semi catch the bubbles before they reenter the tank.
