    Blue Hippo question

I just got a baby blue hippo and he remained hidden and did not eat for the entire day. Is it ok that he didn't eat yet or I should try with garlic?

I got him last night, today I put some purple algae and formula 2 flakes and he didn't try any of it.

Pick up some nori sheets from loblaws & a veggie clip. You can get all of the above for about $5.

Hippo's are sea pigs. 1 day isn't a big deal, the move was stressful. Leave him alone for a bit, put out 1/8th of a nori sheet on a clip & leave it for the day.

They can also be the biggest chicken in the tank, so it's best to give him as much space as you can while he gets used to the idea this is his new home.

If he hasn't eaten in a couple days, then get worried.

    Cheers!

I plan to keep him there for almost a month to a month and a half.
He has ich and I don't want to affect the other fish.

6 weeks QT is perfect, are you using hyposalinity, copper or another treatment?

It's the 55G tank that the hippo is going to outgrow quickly. You'll need to upgrade tanks or find him a new home in about a year.

I think it really depends how small they are,
some of these guys ive seen lately are the sixe of a dime. i got one that went form the size of a dime to the size of a toonie in a year.

    they dont grow that quickly,

Fair enough. Baby hippo doesn't really say just how small it is. If it's absolutely tiny you'll have more time as Bram pointed out.

    Cheers!

I am not using hyposalinity. My grocery store didn't have nori. I have seen that it took a bit of the seaweed so that's getting better. It is about 1.5 inches.

I plan to upgrade my tank in the beginning of next year to a 120-130G.
