    Help please...???

I've recently noticed small, longish dark purple or black worms...at least I think they are worms...on a piece of coral. They are about the thickness of a needle and about 1" or longer in length and almost look like a thread. Does anybody know what these might be and if they are dangerous? How do I get rid of them?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
