My tank sits at about 78.5F all year round.
It's an in-wall tank in the basement. I have 2-200watt and 1 100-watt heaters that keep it there.
Heats from the lights have not been an issue for me.

i keep mine between 78.5 and 80, my tank is on the main floor but my sump is in the basement. i have (3) heaters but (2) do the work and the third is more of a backup. i use a 300w and a 250w set at 79 for normal heating and have a 200w set to come on at 77. the upside to having a basement sump in canada is that i run 400w MH's with no chiller :rotflmao:

120S RR tank with 60G basement sump / fuge

Return Pump: Little Giant 4-MDQX SC
    Water Movement: MP40W, Seio 1500, (2) Hydor K4's
Lighting: 400W SE MH with 10K Venture
Skimmer: Euro-Reef RS250 with gate valve
    Other: RODI, RDSB, PO4/AC reactor

Mine sits between 76.5 and 78 in the winter. I am going to need to get a chiller next summer, though... 400W MH are turning out to be a problem that way.

Since I picked up the aquacontroller, my tank is between 76.8F and 77.3F. Anywhere between 72 and 78F is "textbook" though.

The aquacontroller turns on / off the heaters when required (heaters are set to about 80F as a percaution though), it also turns on / off the fans, and it will shut off the MH lamps if the temp gets too high, and then the VHOs as well if the temperature gets silly.

Since I got it in the fall I'm still waiting to see how well it works in the summer, however the house has AC so I'm thinking it should be okay.

There is nothing so permanent as a temporary measure.

My 77g sits between 78.5 and 80 which seems to be perfect for me since growth is unbelivable.

In my 375g total system temp goes from 77.5 to 79.3
Will be adding another heather in there soon.
    180g AGA inwall W/ 2 overflows W/ 205g sump 20g fuge, 77g W/ 30g sump 12g fuge w/mag 9.5 pump.

Mine goes from 77 at night to 81 during the day. I got my sump in the basement where it's cool in a normal house. But I have a fireplace down there and it's like a heat locker!! I'm in the market for a chiller. (Kind of a funny time to be looking for one.)
