    Yes, small tanks are harder. That's why I normally don't recommend them for beginners.

    Another way of doing it is just to use the next 8 months to slowly gather all your equipment and do lots of reading. This way, you'll have everything ready and the better quality stuff ( believe me in this obby it s not a good idea to cut corners) while being an expert from all the reading you have done and soaked up.

    I might do that, I'll think about it.
    I'm looking into building my own sump from designs on the internet and test things out until I put everything into application. I'm in no means in a rush. On the other hand however, I can't wait to have my own little ecosystem going on.
