About live rock and surface area. What about a brain coral?

I picked up a HUGE old brain coral today. Was white from bleeching of the sun.

I washed it with salt water and placed it into my tank.

I figured the porus nature of the brain coral would help with filtration of my tank.
Am i right or wrong in that assumption?

This is exactly what it looks like but mine is more clean and more bleached

So, think this will make a good addition for filtration?

I would think so... I used to throw all doa corals in the sump for added filtration.

rock is rock... it will definitely help. its what LR is afterall.
accumulations of dead corals that fused together over lots of time.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.
