    Pondmaster 500 pump

Will we be able to use this pump in our reef tank????

we asked the guy for the mag-drive 5, but he gave us the pondmaster 500gph

It says it can be used for aquariums, looks the exact same as the mag-drive, it has metal screws holding the front on

i think pondmaster and mag are made by the same company, i may be wrong. check and see if the screws in the front are SS with a small magnet.

The mag drive pump would have the same screws aswell. Pondmaster pumps are actually mag drive pumps. It's safe for saltwater.

well they do look exactly the same, but we've seen pictures with silver 9 galvanized? screws) and others with black coated screws. The screws we are referring to are the 4 that hold the front on where the pre filter goes.....
the pondmaster we have has the silver screws....... does this matter???

if its a magnetic pump i would guess the screws are SS ( Stainless Steel ), you can double check that with a small magnet.( SS is not magnetic, at least the type used in these applications. ) to keep them clean of steel, it is best to use a SS screwdriver if you have to open the pump for cleaning. a steel screw driver will impregnate the SS screw, causing it to rust.
