do you mean an actual spa jet or the pool return usually used for a closed loop? it may vary by manufacturer but when i used to build pools the hole was 1 7/8" for a 1" return.

The 1" spajets I installed required a 1.5" hole but it depends on the type of spajet... I would wait until you have the jets in hand before getting your tank drilled just to make sure.

How adjustable are those jets and do they restict the flow very much?

Any pics of them set up on a tank?

the jets i have seen in my pool are 1.5" and i wouldn't suggest using them in your tank, theres so many better options then those, like Loc-Line spray nozzles or depending on where your installing them using a 90 degree elbow of PVC pipe. I would just suggest using something that is 100% food safe or made for aquariums.. JMHO
