Ya but my tank only looks so good with natural sunlight. Cause I can't get it directly in the tank, so all my rocks have coraline on the BACK side of teh tank. So I can't get my tank to look as good as you guys. And that sucks.

So...im going to take the plunge. Going to get about a 400 watt t5 lighting system for my 90 gal.

put it on for 5 or 6 hours a day and take the kick in the nuts.

I want a nicer looking tank. I have been doing this hobby now for over a year and a half. Want more out of it.
Got a TON of corals I could just go and grab from the sea. But i won't grab something from teh sea if I know it's going to die. that's just wrong.
So.....time to open the wallet a bit more.

oh well. you lucky 6 cent a kw mofo's

Once you add other charges to the cost, the real cost is running about $0.11/kwh in Ottawa. Hydro companies add charges such as 'debt reduction' and 'delivery' as separate items, rather than increase the cost per kwh.

Good point... there are just as much "charges" as the original cost of hydro. And, during the winter months, there are (at last for HydroOne) penalties (or "service charges" for going over a particular point of monthly hydro.

why not use T5 HO's or 250 watt MH? that would at least save some energy, IMO 400W is overkill unless you have a very deep tank, i'm assuming you haev the standard size 90...

I paid my Hydro Ottawa bill this morning. 2146.38 kWh used over 59 days. Bill came to $227.21 which works out to $0.1059/kWh.

Interestingly, the reading period for the same time last year says I was using 24.77 kWh/day (this was before I set up the tank), and it says I'm using 36.37 kWh/day. I guess the tank is costing about $1.23/day to run.
