    Buying shells?

    Hi Folks,

What do you do when our hermits run out of shells? Mine will at some point in time as they are outgrowing the snails..
Is there a place to buy empty shells?

check your arts and crafts stores ( or arts and crafts sections at wally world ), just make sure they haven't been lacquered. i usually boil them in water for a few minutes to make sure they are clean, then right in the tank. i like to watch my hermits go shopping for a new shell :b2:

YC, before you go and order them online, let me know how many you need. We have a local LFS that has all different sizes. I can but an assortment of sizes and then you will have them. They start at 0.10 each. I usually drop in there once a week, so it is not out of my way. I am sure I can ship them to you cheaper than you can get them online.

I have enough empty shells from over the years to supply hermits for years to come. I however just gave up on the hermits because I found they were also the cause of alot of my empty shells. Check in you LFS for shells as many will have lots of old snail shells.

That would be awesome reefmania! When I first got my CUC, I managed to get a couple of small (really small) shells from the LFS but she doesn't normally sell them and gave me the 'deer in headlights' look when I first asked for them.

Not sure what size I need, large-ish? How does one do hermit fittings?
