Hi again guys, can anyone tell me if its a big deal to switch salt. Right now I use H2Ocean and I want to switch to Red Sea Pro because its just easier for me to get.

yes, it can be stressful on the system.
I would suggest doing this over several water changes over a few months if at all possible.

some systems react better then others depending on their health.. as well as the composition of both salts mather.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

I am completely out of my h2ocean and planned to to an initial 20g water change and then 5g a day after that, is that too fast?

Its more of a risk when switching... if a certain salt is working for you... I would stick with it. If you want to switch... you really should do it slowly over time. What size tank do you have?

Total water volume is 200g. I really don't want to deal with the store that sells to H2Ocean locally and don't want to have to drive 2 hours every time I need salt. The store I want to deal with sells Red Sea Pro which seems similar except it doesn't contain potassium or chloride. I just prepare my last 10g of H2Ocean and 10g of Red Sea pro, so 20g water change tomorrow and then 5g each day is the plan, is that too fast?

how frequent and what volume are your regular water changes??

as the others have already pointed out, any change should be done gradually ( not just with salt ) and it sounds like you're planning on taking it slow. some recommend using a blend of both salts at first, slowly increasing the amount of "new" salt but i've never had a problem switching ( tried many salt over the years ) by just continuing my usual 10G weekly water changes. ( 170G system )

HTH, good luck and make sure to keep an eye on everything.

Thanks, I am out now of the old salt. Usually I change 15g a week but I am adding fish right now and need water for my QT so was planning to change 5g per day with the new salt.

i don't see that as being a big problem ( 2.5% change ) but be cautious and pay close attention to your corals.

    good luck :b15:
