I use and have read that GE Silicone I is tank friendly. Silicone II has anti mold additives and is no good for a tank. You can also buy specific silicone

    There are aquarium rated silicone.
I found mine at Home Hardware. It states safe to use on aquariums.
but do a search on our forum, we had quite a few threads on this.
quite a few silicone brands make a good silicone for tanks.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

i have used the GE I windows and doors without any problems. just make sure that it's 100% silicone and doesn't contain antibacterial / mold agents ( GE calls it bio-seal, i think.... )

Question What kind of silicone to use

    melonbob, liv, a4twenty
I have 1 tube each of GE Silicon I & II and both of them say not for use in aquariums and both of them say it has Anti Mold & Mildew agents included. You think it would be safe if it was allowed to cure and dry for 3 days?

Are you building an aquarium or just siliconing baffels and overflows?

There are several types of both GE I & II. The kitchen and bath and outdoors I wouldn't use. Basic Clear GE I shouldn't have anything in it.

no, the anti mold / mildew agents last for a very long and shouldn't be allowed near your aquarium.

Question What kind of Silicone to use

    Shipwreck
No, it is just to put baffles on a Sump and to reseal the sides of an overflow.

I will visit Home Hardware and see what they got.

After looking at Home Depot, Lowes & Rona, I finally broke down and paid $20.00 a tube of Allglass aquarium silicone from Big Als.:b9:
