Smoking has a major impact on your tank. Take the price per pack multiply by the number of packs you smoke per year, now just think of what your tank would be if you spent that at the fish store instead.

Not sure how cigarette smoke will affect your tank's water other than lowering its PH (if even noticeable). Any smoke (even from candles) will affect your protein skimmer's ability to create bubbles (quantity, quality, and the especially their longevity) to a certain degree as it sucks in "fresh" air. Not saying that your protein skimmer won't work, just saying its performance will be reduced even if it's not noticeable. If you hold a lit cigarette close to the air intake on your skimmer, you'll see the concentrated effect.

As second hand smoke contains carbon monoxide and has twice the amount of tar as what the smoker inhales, wouldn't it lower the oxygen levels in the tank? Also contains ammonia and cadmium which I suspect can't be healthy for the tank (just like it's not healthy for us smokers :b7..
Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated!
