my first fish died this morning

    ok..
so my blenny died this morning.

I thought it was a hardy fish to start with.. and part of the cleaning crew.

It had plenty to eat, but I did'nt see him eating much.
my water seems just fine. 1.024 at 78f no nitrates, or other bad stuff... its alone in there, nothing else alive but him.

One thing I noticed is that he changed colors, he turned purple when I put him in the tank 4 days ago.

I wonder what went wrong ???

Sorry to hear about your loss liv. Unfortunately even when we do everything right ... some fish will parish. Many people will spend a lot of time worrying about and trying to discover the cause of a fishes death when in many cases it is something that is beyond our control. Some fish just don't make it through the change and do not recover from the stress of capture and shipping. whether from the reef to the supplier, supplier to store, store to your home tank. If the tank is cycled properly and all your water tests show that all is OK .. I would except this loss as something that was beyond your control. Better luck with your next fish.

or it could have to do with the acclimation - did you drip your own water into the store water with the blenny, for about 30 min before adding it to your tank?

ya.. I dripped it for 2 hours in a large bag.
then... sat the bag inside the aquarium to the temp is the same... then dropped it in.. he explored alot.. but like i said.. he passed from a beige color to dark purple on the back. maybe he did'nt like my painted background or the good quality sand and lighting ??

    thanks guys,

so.. what do you suggest as my first fishies ? clowns ?

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

myself I never had much luck with the reef captured clowns but have been told that the tank raised ones are rather hardy. If I were you I would start out with truly hardy fish that will not be a problem when you add the ones you really want and go from there. I would start with a few blue / Green chromis because they are rather hardy and do not bother other fishes. In fact they .. or a lot of them are hardy enough to live through a tank cycle and some folks use them for that. they are also a schooling fish that do not hurt the pocket book to buy in small schools.

it looked like a horned blenny.. was supposed to eat algea.
I had plenty for him to eat.. I also tried letus.. he would'nt have none of that.

sooo... where can I get "chromis"

could be they gave you a scooter blenny rather than an algae blenny. which means that he may have starved do to a lack of live foods.

You're location is listed as Quebec, if you'd post your city of residence then it'll be much easier to help you out.

As you well know ... it'll be much easier to get fish in Montreal than Baie James .... :
    It's not junk, it's un-assembled DIY!
