    Wink Bare with me!!

I am cycling my 20gal nano reef.. and was wondering if it would be a good idea to use my empty spare 10g to make a refugium.. i don't want lots of stuff in my main tank.. but the piping i would half to use is about 3 feet long up to other tank over the lip and into the water..

was wondering how to set this up.. and would it be worth while?

someone else would be of better help to you about the plumbing...but adding a extra 10g of water to your system is definitely of benefit! gives you much more water volume!

    Cool fisherman

always worth it! You would have to use a MAXIJET1200 in your main tank to pump water to your refugium. This refu, would have to be a little higher than your main tank so that it could gravity drain back to the main tank. So, you need to have your 10g drilled and have a bulkhead installed. very easy.
about $35 for the MAXI, $20 for the drilling,$10 for the bulkhead, and around another $20 for stuff like tubing[please use FLEX PVC as it doesn't let light penetrate in][available at AC] and PVC cement. When ya want to do it let me know and I can help guide ya. I have one so you can check it out as well.

no i can't add anything higher then the main tank..

i have no top canopy.. and its at the entrance of my daughters room.. i was hoping to put in under the main tank in here cabinet.. with maybe use 2 pumps to move the water to and from main tank?

    what about that?

Two pumps won't work. You'll never have them completely balanced and will end up with something overflowing. I suggest using gravity feed to the refuge and then pump back to the display tank. Just pretend that your refuge is a sump and it will work.

His tank is not drilled and already set up.so your kinda srewed.
That was quick. The refugium only needs to be a tad higher.

but then if electricity fails, you have a flood. What about an overflow box? I was thinking of doing the same thing, so this is also helping me, fisherdude.

how do you have a flood? the drain for the refugium is near the top and will stop flowing right away.
