    Exclamation 55 0r 58 ?

    Whats the best way to go ?

    55 gal that is 48" long or a 58gal that is 36 " long ?

    id say 48 long because it gives faster fish more room to swim. more teritory usually means more fish, more viewing, more ooo's and aaw's. Less stress:beer:

    also probably more Surface area for O2 exchange..however im sure there are people who disagree and say deeper is better for more aquascaping.. So go with your gut

    When I was looking at a 58G, the standard dimensions I saw were:

    58G: 36x18x20
    55G: 48x12x22

    Most people who commented on my question said that the 18" depth of the 58G would make aquascpaing easier. The surface area for the 58G is 648 sq in while that of the 55G is 576 sq in. So, the 58G gives you both more surface area and more distance back-to-front. You lose 2" of hieght and the end-to-end swimming room.

    I would suspect that most fish that would benefit from the 48" length would be cramped by the 12" depth.
