    PH not making sense

Using my new PH pen, after calibrating it to a 7 and 10 solution I get a reading of 7.8 about 1 hr before my lights go out....8.1 half an hour after lights go out...and then 8.0 this morning before going to work. Is my PH pen wonky?? and using the FasTest system (from Aquarium Systems) I get 8.2 (test normally done in the evening.) Am I doing something wrong?

    thanks.

I'm not an expert on the accidity of water, and I'm sure others will chime in on this, but.....doesn't the PH of water in reef tanks rise naturally at night?

Thien, are you rinsing your pen in RO water after you use it? I find mine will be slightly off if I don't do this. The salts will accumulate on the probe. I also found it took two or three tries to get it calibrated correctly. I don't know if this was me or the pen, but I know mine was wonky for the first couple of weeks. I think I had to calibrate it three times before it seemed to work right consistently. Doesn't make sense, I know, but there ya go. Also, the probe I use is only accurate to .2. meaning if it says 8.1. it could be 8.3 or 7.9. You might want to check your manual about that too.

Gail...I'm rinsing in distilled water before and after I measure. Does it make a difference with RO water or is that the same?

zookeeper, when you say PH rises, that means the number goes down right?
    thanks.

Ph normally goes down at night, ie: lower.
The readings you are getting seem to go against the norm.
Try the tip Momrules gave you.
