    liverock question..

some people say add live rock over time is ok...

    but others say

add it all at once so nothing can go wrong..

    which one is it?

    i can't afford to drop 325 on rock.. i really can't..

The risk with adding it over time is a possible ammonia spike each time. You can prevent this by "curing" it in a separate tank (or tub) before putting it in your tank. Or you can just put some money asside until you have $325 and then just buy it all at once.

As long as the rock is fully cured there should be no problem adding it gradually.

I've added live rock in smaller additions to my established tank and I didn't see any noticeable changes.
I did try and pick 'cured' rocks to add to avoid the problems you mentioned..

Even cured rock will have some dieoff if it's shipped. If you get it out of a tank at the LFS and bring it right home and put it right in the tank there shouldn't be any dieoff though.

How much of an affect it has on your tank will depend on how much you add at a time and how much water volume you have to balance it out.

the FIJI I just bought off Ivan/AC is awsome! it is labelled as uncured but it is just fine. Doesn't smell at all! its bin in the bin for 3 days now. I put a few pieces right in the tank

Maybe Ivan will do lay-away. Send him $50 a month until it's all paid for and then he can send you his really good rock.
