You'll have to test it with vinegar. If it fizzes, it's good but if nothing happens it'll be silica based.

Try to find BOMIX sand at a RONA near you. It's aragonite and works great.

I'm almost positive King Sand is SIlica beach sand. Kinda boring too. If you must go with your local Home depot, use the Stone Mason Decor Sand, it is much whiter. Otherwise as mouse said, Bomix at Rona or Oldcastle(southdown) from HD in the NE US. Any of the above should be fine, just a matter of looks IMO.

I've been using Bomix sand in my reef for 8 months now with no ill effects other than normal algae.
90G bb mixed reef set up in April 2005. I had 40g mixed reef for one year before that

Hey Fisherman, that slam I wrote above wasn't aimed at you it was aimed at the idiots that wrote the MSDS sheets for Bomix. Sorry if it sounded like I was slamming you

what color is the sand? I won't worry to much. silica sand doesn't fissle if thats what it is. BOMIX sand and other masonary sands, sand blasting sands are okay to use.
