What to do with live rock?

I'm setting up a 100g tank, i have a family member taking down one. I'm getting all his live rock and sand, but his tank was poorly taken care of. Bad case of green hair every where.
Should i clean the rock before putting in my tank and how should i go about it?

Just went through that myself, bought a tank setup off someone that had HA bad. We clean off ha put all the rock in a separate tank with no light for 2 weeks then added a seahare HA gone. Now we have some white stars coming back and I think a zoo growing on a rock. We will now add this new rock to our system soon.
