    Need Advice

I have just finished putting in the live rock from Ivan and went through a cycle.

I'm looking for some advice on what livestock I could put in the tank initially. My lighting (canopy) is not yet finished so I light the tank temporarily at night with a basic setup.

I need something "alive" in there. But it cannot require too much light.

Oy yeah, I have some live phyto ready for feeding.

    Thanks
    Eric

If the cycle is really finished I'd start with some cleanup critters as the new tank algae blooms are right around the corner. Snails, cucumbers, shrimp should all do fine.

    Hey Susan,

Always there to help me out hehe Thanks.

My Nitrites, Ammonia are both 0 and my Nitrates are between 2 and 5. No skimmate in a week too. Do you think the cycle is over?

As for Snails, Cukes, shrimp, etc... Can you be more specific? I'd like a couple of shrimps - Let's say a boxer are they a good choice?

    thanks

Yup, assuming that you did have an ammonia spike, it sounds like it's over.

This is the cleanup crew I'm getting on Friday for my new 300g tank:

    50 Cerith Snails
    25 Nassarious Snails
    5 Turbo Snails
    5 Margarita Snails
    3 Cleaner Shrimp
    1 Black Knobby Cucumber
    2 Tiger Tail Cucumber
    4 Emerald Crab
    1 Coral Banded Shrimp

I already have one black knobby cucumber, a huge trochus, a big tuxedo urchin and a big long spined diadema urchin.

I don't like hermit crabs. I'm not familar with boxer shrimps but I know cleaners, blood and peppermints are all fine. A coral banded shrimp might be trouble in a reef with a deep sandbed but I do know of others who are doing it.

    Hope this helps.

No problem. These are the same cleaners I've used in my 120g reef for 3 years. Less of them of course. Works for me.

Our club is doing a group order from J&L's so I got in on it. Taxes in it's $294. This isn't any kind of package deal but I thought it was a pretty good price for that many critters.
