    Cool

do not rinse it, its best to keep all the fine sediments. place it in the tank with out water and place a garbage bag over top. fill tank with water and let settle a few days. SLOWLY remove the garbage bag. this should help alot. if using powerheads just run 1 or 2 until bacteria weighs down the sand.

so do I need to rinse the sand before putting it in? Or can I just add the sand in the tank straight from the bag?>

You can add it right from the bag. The will cloud the tank for a few days but you need all those small particles in the sand to hold bacteria later on. Try putting the bag right in the tank at the bottom and release it there, might help reduce the amount of silt in the water.

Rinse the sand well, there is always dust and crap in it. I usually spend about 1h+/30lb bag of caribsea you should see all the stuff that comes out by rinsing it. It's a white cloud at first and then when i am done i can clearly see my hand in the bucket with water in it....that's when you know it's clean. I just added 60lbs in my main tank. To do this withour having a cloudy tank, go buy a 4" pvc pipe, put it in the tank and fill it with sand when it'a full lift it and move it around. It works really well.

Hey mike, using the 4" PVC tube is a great idea, wouldn't of thought of that, especially if you already have water in tank!! :thumb:
