Emerald crab one claw is missing

I bought an emerald crab the other night and when at home I found that one of its claw is no where to be found. I didn't return it to LFS and put it in the tank.

Will the other claw grow back?

Should grow back. He likely lost it when he was being captured out of the tank for you.

That's what I think because that guy in the LFS had a hard time to capture it as he didn't want to use his bare hands. Thanks.

That's too bad. Look like it has hard time to grab the bubble algae out the rock with just one claw.

Will I could be mistaken but i watch a lot of nature stuff on TV and there are crabs that can actually drop their claws to escape when they are fighting a losing battle and they grow them back. Perhaps it is something that is specific to that species.

Most crustaceans will grow back lost appendages, but only as they moult. Meaning, when your crab moults it should have a new claw, but it will be tiny. With each successive moult it will get progressively bigger. Least that's what happens with our FW crayfish. :-) So the more moults, the quicker the claw should grow back.
Slohand- perhaps yours was injured beyond the point it regenerates from? Has the crab grown in size? A fully grown crab doesn't moult as much, so it takes longer to regenerate a missing appendage.

I was also under the impression that it would grow back but Mom makes the case for my crab. He has lost the claw right down to his carapace and I believe the damage is just too much. He has molted several time since I've had him and is about 1.5"

My coral banded shrimp was missing a claw when I got him and he had it back at the next molt!
