    Alk Readings

I'm using the "fasTesT/SeaTesT alk test kit. It takes 5 drops to change the solution from blue to yellow. After reading the enclosed booklet for the standard method this yeilds 2.5 which I can then multiply by 2.8 to get a DKH of 7. This seems low.. what is a desirable level for a mature tank? I thought 11 ~ 14 was normal. pH reads around 8.0 ~ 8.1 with a kit by the same manufacturer.

    Thanks in advance!

This is what I understood to be acceptable levels...
    2.5 - 4 meq/L
    or
    7 - 11 dKH
    or
    125 - 200 ppm CaCO3 equivalents.

So if the test is correct I have acceptable levels, albeit a tad low. I currently dose 1x a week with two tablespoons of buffer. I'll try going with 2x a week and see how the levels read.

    More to follow!

I've always understood that alk has to be in line with calcium. The higher the calcium the higher the alk needs to be to balance.

My CA reads 420 using shitty Hagen kits. I think that this is in keeping with the info I read. I think my Alk is low, I will continue to test as I adjust the Alk and keep ya'll posted.

BTW Flame, I forgot the macro that Gail left for me! I'll have to PM you and see about drooping by to collect it.
