    Yet another calcium question

    Well sort of.

Just thinking out loud here, but maybe somebody more experienced could tell me if this makes sense.

Other people I've talked to that use Oceanic are getting about 430-450 calc.

I'm currently only using RO water instead of RO/DI (full filter should arrive tomorrow). Anyway my fresh water source has about 30ppm Calcium in it.

Mixing to 1.025SG I get 600 ppm in a fresh batch, but I'm using a needle hydrometer.

If that's drifted off mark, then I'm thinking it looks like:

    600-30 (source) = 470.
    470 / 430 (widest difference) = 1.1

    1.025 * 1.1 = 1.0275 or about 36 ppt.

So is my hydrometer off by 10% and I'm mixing my salt too "thick"?

Does that make sense to anyone but me? (Getting late on a work night lol)

    Cheers!

Unless theres 100 beeing taken off your 600 that you dont show us, as far as I know, 600-30 = 570 and not 470 :

    Doh!

Man I was tired when I posted that. That would put my hydrometer out by 33% and I really don't think my salt is mixed to 1.36 so there goes that theory.

    Cheers!
There is nothing so permanent as a temporary measure.
