IMO they are the second choice of butterflies for reefs, after the copperband. However I would exercise caution when, putting one in a reef tank. if kept constantly fed they may not go looking for food, but it maybe in their nature to pick at rock and corals.

The only reason I ask is because we are trying to find a replacement for the copperband which is understood that will eat almost everything in our tank.

So if a longnose is fed properly is there less of a chance that it will pick at featherdusters and such then a copperband? Or are all butterflys coral pickers?

All butterflies are pickers. The Copperband is about the safest one there is and even it will 1st eat all the dusters, big and small. But they will almost always leave every coral alone if fed properly. I would say you're better off the CB, but even then not if you have dusters you wnt to keep. I used ti have a cuple nice big dusters along with a bunch of smaller ones, but I made the trade off for a fish I have always wanted.
